With curly hair, a busy work schedule and winter doing it’s thing, a headband that doubles as a chic neck warmer seemed like the perfect pattern to offer up in January. It’s perfect to glam up that quick ponytail. Inspiration comes from quite the variety of places, from beautiful movie stars of an earlier era, to runway looks of today, to vintage pattern photos to YEP, that’s right, Slick Watts circa 1979 Seattle SuperSonics. You must forgive me, I grew up in Seattle and this team and especially this guy with his jaunty ever-present headband captivated the city as they brought home the only men’s professional sports championship this town has seen since, well, ever. (heavy sigh over the Seahawks here). Click here to download.

Converted to Neck Warmer
Bear (Mary’s Saint Bernard) got in on the photo shoot. He’s such a prima donna!
Thank you! It’s lovely and I will make one soon!
Very nice pattern and it looks warme.
Thanks for sharing!
Cute pattern! And an even cuter Bear!!! 🙂
This is a great looking headband! Thanks for sharing!
This looks great! Thanks for sharing! =)
PS! Love Bear, too – looks like a Panda! =)
Bear weighs about as much as a panda! I rescued him and his sister about two years ago. Poor guy only has one eye so it’s like having a small piece of furniture, that drools, with poor eyesight, follow you around the house. And the snoring, oh boy, you have no idea. But I wouldn’t trade them in for all the yarn in all the stashes on Ravelry!
Brandy and I have laughed about making him some eye patches and posting our attempts.
cheers!
Mary
Lovely and useful pattern. Your dog is beautiful and so are you for taking in not only him, but his sibling as well1
Found this three hours ago and I just finished. I love it!! I’m gonna block it out right now!!
so glad you like! I just did a summer version that is super cute that I will post.

Hi,
Was looking for a pattern for this headband/neck warmer and yours came up.
Our dog’s name is Brandy and our daughter, son-in-law moved to Bainbridge Island from the East Coast in Ct.! Love your dog and kudos for rescuing him and his sister. Our daughter has three rescued dogs and three rescued cats. That’s the only way to go!
Can’t wait to make the headband.
Hi there! Thanks for finding our little ol’ blog. Yes, Bear is quite the bundle of fun. When you go to knit the headband, if you want, instead of K2tog after the second YO, do a SSK for a more symmetrical look. Just a thought! Mary
I cannot find the pattern. Can someone send me the link?
Love it! However, I don’t knit. Anybody want to make one for me? Of course, I’ll pay.
I do not knit either but I would LOVE to buy one or two of these! Please email me if this is possible. ttwallace@gmail.com.
Thank you for sharing this pattern! This will fit the bill for this winter. 🙂 Found your pattern and the blog through Pinterest.
So glad you like it! Thanks for the nice comment. Yes, Pinterest has brought us many visitors and we love it!
i want this pattern please – tell me how to get it.
Hi Sue – if you go to our Patterns tab at the top of the page, it is the 5th pattern down on that page – click on it and it will open up the pattern pdf. I can also email you the pdf if you like. thanks! Mary
What a gorgeous neckwarmer. I’m looking for something to make as Christmas presents, and this just might make the list.
Where can I get the pattern for this?
Hello Mary –
The pattern can be downloaded via pdf here or I can email it to you if you prefer. Let me know!
thanks –
Mary
Would love to purchase one, anyone up for it? solbergs (AT) gmail.com
I’m one of those untalented and unfortunate souls that can’t knit. Alas!! I do however have some money in my Paypal account and would love to pay if anyone is willing to make this for me. I like the style and color of the example. If you are able to make one for me please email me at gryffindorfire@gmail.com
Thank you!!
Hi Bethany – Mary here – I would recommend printing out the pattern and taking it to your local yarn or crafts store – usually they know people who will do knitting projects. Cheers!
Mary
I went to the pattern tab but couldn’t open the pattern. Can you please e-mail it to me? beattie.allison@yahoo.com. I would truly appreciate it. My daughter just moved to Chicago, I thought she could use a couple of these!
Hi Allison,
I’m going to Chicago in just a week and I’m taking my headband/neck warmer with me. My daughter found this pattern and begged me to make her one. Now I’m making me one too. Thanks Mary for sharing. Always nice to find a great gift idea to make up ahead of time for last minute blessings..
Marcy
Thank you for this cute pattern – it seams easy enough for me as re-beginner in knitting :-))
I have spun my yarn now, will dye it later and then…off to knit a warmer !
kind regards,
Martina
This is beautiful. Wish I knew how to knit. I crochet, but have never learned to knit. Of course adding one more thing to my list of hobbies would probably push me over the edge.
Thanks!! LOVE it!! 🙂
I absolutely love this! I don’t knit either, I do crochet though. Do you by any chance know is ther’s a crochet pattern floating somewhere for something similar? I would love to give it a try!
Hi Becky – Brandy is going to try to come up with something for you, this is not the first time we have been asked! Give her a few weeks and check back, or subscribe to the blog so you can see when we post it.
thanks! Mary
Thanks so much! I just subscribed ton the blog. Look forward to trying this out. 🙂
i dont see a patteren? or am i just bling lol
ha blind*
LOL. You are not blind that I am aware of, but here is the link – you can download the pdf from here: https://rewindknits.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/c2010rewind_crlhdnw2.pdf
This is a gorgeous pattern, is so very easy, and has taught me how to yarn over before a purl! It’s pretty and educational! I’ve seen so many of these in stores and its fabulous to know I can go home and just knit one up instead. Thank you so very much – knitting one up this weekend in crimson to wear to the LSU/Bama game on Nov. 5th, and going to hunt for a cute houndstooth button to fasten it. 😉
Thank you for putting this up! I found and fell in love with it! I’m new to knitting and do have one question though, what does the right side/wrong side before each row mean? Do I need to flip my work?
Hi Sarah – RS (right side) is the side that faces out (the side that you want people to see when you are wearing it). So when you are knitting and the right side is facing you, that means you should be knitting the RS rows. The WS (wrong side) is the side that would be next to your skin. So again, when you are knitting, and the WS (wrong side) is facing you, then you would knit the WS rows. Flipping your work is just when you get to the end of a row, and you have to move the full needle from your right hand back to your left hand so you can begin knitting again. Jeez I hope that makes sense! There are a ton of great you tube videos that can help explain it to – always helps me to see it in action. Send us a few pics of your completed headband, would love to see! Thanks – Mary
Do you have a similar pattern like this for crochet?
Brandy is working on one right now, since we have had so many requests. She is not quite happy with it however and is currently revising it. We should have it posted in about 10 days. thanks!
i don’t knit but would love to purchase, any way i can do that?
Hi Monica – we don’t make them for sale, but the best way is to print out the pattern, go to your local crafts store or LYS (local yarn store) – there is always someone there that will know local knitters who will whip up garments/accessories for the non-knitters of the world. That way you can even pick out your own yarn! Who knows, you may even get the urge to learn to knit while you are there! hint hint….
Can I pay you to knit this for me?? Please email me @ kelleylynn0619@gmail.com if so!! 🙂
just saw info above! thanks!!
I can only download and print the 2nd page of the three paged pattern. Any chance I can get the whole pattern?
Hi Cathy – I just emailed it to you…
Could someone please email me the pattern to this?? DKSpath@excite.com Thank you so much, I did not see the pattern here…. thanks!
Here is the link! I also emailed it to you. Thanks – Mary

Hey, this thing looks cool! My wife would love it and I want to try and make it for her myself. But I have never done anything like this, is there a good resource to learn how to read your pattern list and make it?
Mark – so impressed with you! Okay, I would do a few things. Go to your local yarn store or local crafts store. Throw yourself on the mercy of the yarn dept worker(s) – they will fall over and die that a man wants to make his wife something and you should have instant help getting supplies and yarn – print out the pattern and take it with you. They will even help you get started. Also, usually there is a one night a week knitting group – again, you would be the center of attention and get more help than you could possibly imagine – you may even pick up a stalker or two! Also, you tube is full of great videos on how to get started. You are going to need to learn how to cast on, how to do a knit stitch, a purl stitch, a yarn over, and a k3tog (knit 3 together). We are here for future counseling if needed! Cheers!
Oh.my.god! Has anyone ever told you your dog looks like a panda!!! Adorable!
Yes, he does, doesn’t he! I don’t think pandas drool however…. 🙂
Do you have the crochet pattern yet? I just love the headband and have quite a few granddaughters and a couple of great granddaughters to crochet for.
Thanks,
Mary Yuen
Hi Mary – Brandy is finishing it up this weekend. Stay tuned!
Oh thank you so much..You girls are just awesome. You just made my day. 😉
Big hugs to you both……
Ok I would consider myself a decent knitter but I am working this pattern up and I only have one row holes instead of the two separated by the single stitch. Does that make sense? do you have any thoughts what I might be doing wrong? Everything else looks like it is symetrical etc… so I am confused. Thanks
Hi Amy, I think it is your yarn over before the purl that is messing you up. When you yarn over before a purl, you have to bring the yarn forward of course before your purl stitch like normal, then you have to wrap the ‘yarn over’ again before you do the purl. So you bring the yarn forward, then do a yarn over, then do the purl. Almost like doing two yarn overs before you do the purl. Geez that didn’t make much sense…. let me know if that helps!
I love this pattern. My daughter is coming to visit and would love to make it. I can’t seem to get it to download. I even tried clicking the link in the other posts… could you email it to me? Thank you.

I keep checking back. I have been watching for a while waiting for the crocheted version to come out!! I can’t wait! I live in Alaska and had major neck surgery not long ago. At the hospital gift shop I saw some of these and my husband had me try one on as a neck wrap to protect my neck from the cold with all the new metal in it and it was too cute! I’ve been looking for a pattern every since! The “Cowls” are just to big and bulky to wear indoors all the time but this would be great! I’ve already bought my three colors of yarn and my buttons! LOL Just waiting on the pattern! Thanks!!
Love this for my daughter for soccer games. Do you have a crochet pattern
Yes we do! Look at the latest post for the link and picture, or go to the pattern tab, the link is there also. Enjoy!
Do you sell them for those of us who can’t sew?
Hi Ashlyn – we do not sell these items direct – but what you can do is call a local yarn or crafts store and see if they know anyone who knits projects for other people – usually they do! The pattern is available for free on our blog. Hope that helps!
Mary
I tried downloading this pattern. When I go to print, the page doesn’t have the entire instructions. Both top and bottom are cut off and only shows one page. Could you email me the entire pattern please?
I will email you a print friendly version!
Hi,
I am looking forward to knitting this up, it will keep my ears so warm when I am out walking. I was wondering though, when I downloaded the instructions and went to print them the PDF had it all as one page and printed it very small and I can’t seem to figure out how to print it large. I really don’t want to have to retype it all up so that I can read the pattern, can you help?
I will email you the pattern. Hold please!
Would you mind emailing me the pattern? It is so cute!
Hi Mary –
I will email it to you on Monday when I am back at my ‘real’ computer! thanks!
Mary
Can You Email it to me too? Thanks so much, I love it!
Done and done! 🙂
Love it! Could you email the pattern?
Thanks! Keep creating!
it has been sent! Enjoy!
Mary
Fell in love with your headband, but unable to download pattern. Could you email it to me?
Thanks
i would love to knit this…. do you mind emailing the pattern to me?
elledee1930@yahoo.com
thanks for considering.
Love the headband! Cannot find the pattern:( Can it be emailed to me or is there another place to find it that I am not aware of? Let me know, Thanks, Joanie
Hi Joanie – The link is in the post, where it says click to download – or go to the pattern page and click on the image of the headband, it should start the pdf download for you. If that doesn’t work, let me know and I will email it to you, no worries!
Hi. I learned how to knit two weeks ago. I’ve made one very bad scarf (knit only) and one pretty decent scarf (knit and purl). I saw this on Pintrest and I am so excited. This is my next adventure…. I’ll let you know how it turns out! I hope I didn’t over do it!
How exciting! Take it one row at a time, and it is super easy. Let us know if you need any help!
It’s done!! It looks amazing but I think my needles were a little too big and it ended up being longer and wider, but I got curly curly hair so it works for me. Haha! Thanks for the pattern! I’m definitely going to make a few of these for gifts. 🙂
awesome! I’ve got super curly hair too, all that extra hair works great with this headband. Hey, send us the picture so we can check it out! Good job!! I made a few for summer with a cotton yarn and reduced the width – super cute. I may never style my hair again! LOL. mary@rewindknits.com is our email if you want to share a picture with us. Cheers! Mary
The “click to download” is right above the back view picture.
I am obsessed with this! Is the crochet pattern available yet?
It is! Go to the pattern page, it is towards the bottom, or here is the link to the pdf… thanks!

how do I download this pattern?
You can either go to the pattern page and click on the image of this item and it will download as a pdf, or there is a link to the pattern at the bottom of the paragraph of the post, says click here to download. The link is on the word ‘here’. If you can’t figure it out, I can email it to you! Cheers.
I found it and figured it out, thanks!
I am knitting with a charity group (Headbands for Hunger…you can find us on FB). We make headbands which we sell locally. The knitters donate the time and materials, so 100% of the purchase price is donated to our local food pantry to buy fresh produce. Would you give us permission to sell your headbands for this purpose? Thanks. You can reach me on Ravelry (ilanaeid) or at spector.ilana@gmail.com.
Hi! I love this headband/neckwarmer but have had no luck trying to download it 😦 I’ve tried various ways but all no go, so would you mind please emailing it to me, thank you! Both the knitted and crochet versions would be fabulous! Thank you very much 🙂
Made this today!!!!!
yea!
Would you mind terribly if I asked you to email me the patter? I cannot find it and I love it! Thank you so much!
What a great idea for headgear during the winter months. Thanks for sharing.
beautiful pattern…someone had posted it as crochet on pinterest…im a crocheter so knit means nothing to me
I’m so confused! Do I need to YO only where it SAYS YO, or before and after each bolded K and P? I’m just confused about the bolded K’s and P’s… Help!
do a YO only where indicated. the bolded Ks and Ps were to indicate the center of the headband as you are knitting it. You are not the first to be confused by my rookie pattern writing! sorry!
If you have a crochet pattern for this, would you e-mail it to me? I would love to make this.
I have fixed the link, if you click on the image of the crocheted headband the pdf should appear. thanks!
